Celtic fear that Ange Postecoglou simply can’t resist the Tottenham Hotspur job due to his long road to prominence.

Tottenham Hotspur want Ange Postecoglou and Celtic are worried that he just can’t say no to the Premier League club.

That is according to 90Min, who claim that Celtic are ‘concerned’ about Postecoglou’s future at the club.

Tottenham appear to have made the Australian their top target to replace Antonio Conte this summer.

Celtic are trying to give Postecoglou a new long-term deal, rather than the 12-month rolling contract he current works on.

However, Celtic believe that Postecoglou’s long road to becoming an in-demand manager is a real factor.

The 57-year-old may well view this Tottenham chance as his last big opportunity to manage a top Premier League side.

There is work to be done at Tottenham but this is an opportunity Postecoglou probably couldn’t have dreamed of just a few years ago.

Ange Postecoglou’s long road to Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs will likely only make an approach once Celtic’s Scottish Cup final is out of the way this weekend.

This will be a difficult position for Postecoglou to turn down after quite the coaching journey.

The Greek-born coach started out as manager of semi-professional side South Melbourne before joining the Australia ranks.

Between 2000 and 2007, Postecoglou managed the Australia Under-17’s and then the Under-20’s.

Postecoglou secured his first job in Europe by becoming Panachaiki boss in 2008, winning 16 of 33 games in the Greek third division.

The next stop was Whittlesea Zebras as Postecoglou combined his managerial duties with running coaching courses in Melbourne.

Postecoglou’s big break came with Brisbane Roar in 2009, winning the A-League Championship twice before moving on to Melbourne Victory.

That job lasted just 18 months as Postecoglou has headhunted to become the new Australia boss in October 2013.

Postecoglou took Australia into the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and even won the 2015 AFC Asian Cup before returning to club management.

The huge offers still weren’t coming in and Postecoglou headed to Japan, enjoying more than three years in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos, where he won one league title.

Now chasing a treble this season, Postecoglou’s stock is on the rise as he makes strides few would have expected of him even 10 years ago.

Postecoglou is nearing 60 now and having been in Greece’s third tier less than 15 years ago, the Tottenham job may just be too big to turn down at this stage in his career.
