Watford really don’t want to sell Ismaila Sarr, but that could change if Liverpool come in for him, the Athletic report.
Liverpool were thought to be interested in Sarr last summer in a £35 million deal (Goal), but they ultimately signed Diogo Jota instead.
Sarr, instead, surprisingly stayed at Watford despite their relegation and he has now helped them earn promotion back to the Premier League.
The Hornets are apparently determined to keep their star attacker, despite ‘strong’ interest in him from multiple sources.
But the club also don’t want to be seen to be blocking his path, and their stance over a sale may change if Liverpool did attempt to sign him, the update suggests.
Whether Liverpool will go back in for Sarr remains to be seen.
The rapid forward absolutely destroyed them last season, when he helped Watford to a shock victory at Vicarage Road.
He has also shown real quality in the Championship, where he has provided 13 goals and 10 assists on Watford’s way to promotion.
For Liverpool though there is a question of whether he is an ideal fit.
The Reds are likely to be on the hunt for a new attacker this summer, but an out and out goalscorer is surely a more likely purchase.
Liverpool have good creative options going forward, but it is their failure to convert the chances they have forged which has been their real issue this season, and it may be that Sarr is not seen as a priority right now.
