Arsenal are still on the market for new players. The Gunners have already brought in Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes but another player in midfield, if not two, is a necessity.

Mikel Arteta’s side have a lot of work to do in terms of transfers. Incomings are the priority but it seems like big signings can’t be completed before they sell a few of their current players.

Arsenal would like to part ways with a number of their fringe players. Sokratis Papastathopoulos is reportedly on the transfer list as is Matteo Guendouzi, who hasn’t played a minute for the club since his altercation with Neal Maupay at Brighton last season.

Mesut Ozil is another one who they would like to move on but his wages will make it almost impossible for any club to sign him. That leaves the Gunners with Lucas Torreira, who yet to fit into Arteta’s system.

The Uruguayan, signed by Unai Emery from Sampdoria in 2018, became an instant fans’ favourite. However, the former Gunners boss playing him in a box-to-box role rather than his preferred number six position hurt his form.

With Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos forming an excellent partnership in the middle of the park, and with Mohamed Elneny suddenly higher up in the pecking order than Torreira, the Uruguayan’s time at the club looks to be coming to an end.

CalcioMercato claims Serie A side Torino has reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign Torreira on loan with an obligation to buy for a fee in the region of £22 million. Half of that fee would be paid up front and the rest at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Arsenal are also set to make some money from the sale of Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa, a deal expected to complete imminently (TalkSport).

That money could make a huge difference to Arsenal in the remainder of this transfer window. The Gunners have been heavily linked with moves for Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar, and Torreira’s potential sale frees up space for at least one of them.
