According to a report from RMC Sport, Rennes have reached an agreement with Real Valladolid to sign Mohammed Salisu.

The 21-year-old defender has had a hugely impressive season in La Liga where he caught the eye of a number of clubs.

El Desmarque claimed that Premier League sides Wolves, Southampton and Watford were all linked with a move for Salisu while the same outlet later revealed that Newcastle United had joined the race for him as well.

Salisu has a release clause of just £10 million which makes him an attractive option for multiple clubs in Europe.

The report from RMC claims that Rennes and Valladolid have reached an agreement to sell Salisu for a little over his clause due to future bonuses.

Rennes are yet to agree personal terms with Salisu. The transfer window in France has already open which puts the Ligue 1 outfit in a better position than English clubs to complete deals for their targets.

However, the report claims that Southampton are still in the race for Salisu. The Saints have been looking at the defender for quite some time now and he would certainly be a fantastic signing for them.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has a brilliant history of developing young talents and Salisu couldn’t be in better hands if a move can happen this summer.

However, Southampton will have to act quickly to stop Rennes from sealing the deal, which seems difficult considering that all their focus will be on their survival in the Premier League when it returns next week.
