Celtic are interested in signing Duffy from Brighton, and the central defender himself is keen on a move to the Hoops this summer, according to the report.
The Bhoys want to sign the 28-year-old on a season-long loan deal and want Brighton to pay a chunk of his wages, claims the report, adding that the Seagulls are fine with that as long as they receive a loan fee of £2 million.
The report has further claimed that Brighton have suggested a compromise, which which would see ‘Celtic sign the player permanently, but pay for him in four annual payments of £1.25m’.
According to The Sunday Post, Duffy earns £40,000 per week as salary.
Good deal for Celtic?
Duffy is a very good central defender who would make Celtic better, and it would not be a bad move for the Hoops to accept Brighton’s proposal for the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international central defender.
The Glasgow giants have not been great defensively so far this season, and brining an experienced player such as Duffy is only going to help.
Interestingly, former Celtic centre-back Kelvin Wilson has also backed the Hoops’ reported pursuit of the ex-Everton man.
Wilson told The Scottish Sun: “If Neil thinks they need two or three players of Duffy’s stature, even on loan, then the club should go and do that.
“When the team is under so much pressure, Celtic need some experience. Guys like Duffy tick all the right boxes and I hope he’s able to get a few of them in.”
