Roma are in the process of identifying replacements for Pau Lopez with the reported West Ham United target potentially on his way back to the Premier League, according to Calciomercato.

The Hammers have done pretty well in the transfer market recently, and this is not something that can often be said about the high-flying London giants.

Summer signings Vladimir Coufal, Craig Dawson and Said Benrahma have made a big impact under David Moyes, while Tomas Soucek took his seasonal tally to seven with a brace in Tuesday’s 3-2 win at Crystal Palace.

So West Ham deserve the benefit of the doubt amid claims that the much-maligned Spain international Pau Lopez could be on his way.

ForzaRoma claim that West Ham have made a £20 million loan-to-buy bid for the former Espanyol goalkeeper, who had a brief and uneventful spell at Tottenham Hotspur in 2016/17.

Roma turned down the approach although you get the feeling that, if West Ham return with an improved offer, Lopez could soon be packing his bags.

The Catalan-born 26-year-old has endured an error-ridden spell at the Serie A giants, falling out of favour under manager Paulo Fonseca.

He was sent off during the recent Coppa Italia defeat to Spezia, racing off his goalline and poleaxing poor Roberto Piccolo.

“They sold Alisson, the best in the world and then paid a lot for Pau Lopez,” former Roma shot-stopper Franco Superchi told TMW after the cup exit.

“He seemed to have recovered (his form) and then it went very badly. He cannot be trusted. We need a good one (goalkeeper), simply.”

It seems that Roma agree.

According to Calciomercato, the Giallorossi are eyeing up Hellas Verona’s former Leeds glovesman Marco Silvestri and Udinese’s Argentine international Juan Musso as they look to move on from Lopez.
