The Athletic have reported that Manchester City are open to selling Raheem Sterling amid interest from Arsenal, but they will not sell him back to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

It has been reported that although City manager Pep Guardiola would be happy enough to keep Sterling in his squad, the Premier League champions would accept a good offer for the former Liverpool star.

However, the Citizens would not sell the 26-year-old back to Liverpool.

During a Q&A on The Athletic, when asked about Sterling potentially returning to Liverpool, City correspondent Sam Lee said that the Citizens would not sell him to strengthen the Reds.

City signed the England international from Liverpool for £44 million back in 2015.

There are no credible reports claiming that Liverpool want Sterling back, but The Liverpool Echo did an opinion piece last month explaining why the Reds should consider a move for him.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Arsenal are interested in signing Sterling this summer.

Raheem Sterling to Arsenal or Liverpool?

The transfer season is a silly season.

There is absolutely no chance that Sterling will end up at Liverpool.

In fact, you could even argue that the England international would not join Arsenal.

After all, the 26-year-old – described as “unplayable” by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel this month – has won major trophies and has played consistently in the Champions League during his time at City.

Arsenal will not even play in the Europa League next season.

The way Sterling left Liverpool for City was controversial, and many Anfield faithful will not want the Englishman back.

Moreover, City will not sell as good a player as Sterling to their main title rivals.
