One of Celtic’s rumoured summer targets has reportedly been offered a new deal.
English clubs including Sheffield United and Bournemouth were also linked with the Preston North End defender, Ben Davies.
But Davies is more likely to sign a pre-contract agreement with Celtic in the New Year, as claimed by The Sun in September.
The next few weeks will therefore make for interesting viewing, with the 25-year-old one of four Preston players who have received fresh proposals containing ‘significant’ increases on their current terms, according to the Lancashire Evening Post.
Davies suitors such as Celtic, Sheffield United and Bournemouth were told by the Preston manager Alex Neil in the previous transfer window that it could take £10 million to prise him from Deepdale.
And the Lancastrian side will therefore be desperate to tie down the Cumbrian and avoid losing him for free.

Celtic strengthened their options in Davies’ position with the signing of Shane Duffy in September, but the Irishman is only on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion and has so far struggled to convince the Bhoys that he could be a suitable long-term option.
