Lazio are becoming concerned that Maurizio Sarri wants the Tottenham Hotspur job, Il Messaggero suggest.

Sarri was thought to be on his way to Lazio but now anxiety is growing over whether he will take the job.

Part of the reason why Sarri is stalling on signing a contract may be because there is an opening at Tottenham, the report suggests.

Spurs have failed to agree terms with Antonio Conte, which leaves their managerial vacancy open still.

There is great uncertainty over who Tottenham’s next manager will be.

It should be noted that the report claims that Erik ten Hag is the favourite, but Sarri’s decision to wait for a job makes things very interesting.

Not fitting the description

Sarri’s appointment at Tottenham may not fit what Daniel Levy is looking for.

But he is one of the higher calibre managers still on the market, and the fact he is available without needing to pay compensation would surely appeal.

Sarri’s last spell at Chelsea was largely unsuccessful, as his style of football never convinced the Stamford Bridge crowd, but he did guide them to European success.

If he was to join Spurs he would likely have to win over supporters, but many Tottenham fans may just be relieved to have a candidate in place, after waiting for so long.
