According to AS in Spain, Atlético Madrid want Nottingham Forest to sign Renan Lodi in January, a player Newcastle are also admirers of.

Nottingham Forest or Newcastle could sign Renan Lodi

Well, Atlético Madrid find themselves in a spot of bother after dropping out of the Champions League.

AS believe those at the Wanda Metropolitano did not budget for that to happen, and must now find €30m (£26m) to fill a void in the financial accounts.

It is said that star men such as Yannick Carrasco will be up for sale this winter as Diego Simeone attempts to raise the required funds, while the Spaniards are also hoping for Nottingham Forest to sign Lodi.

The Brazil international moved to the City Ground on loan for the 2022/23 campaign, with Steve Cooper holding an option to buy the South American for £26m in the summer – the exact sum needed by Atlético Madrid.

Unfortunately for Atlético Madrid, Lodi has struggled at Nottingham Forest.

The 24-year-old has made five Premier League starts, although he has failed to shine as his side sit bottom of the Premier League.

Newcastle may take Renan Lodi from Nottingham Forest

Interestingly, The Athletic believe Newcastle considered a move for Lodi, but felt that it was too risky due to the finances involved, as well as the time it would take him to adapt to English football.

Now, both of those things are not so much of a problem.

Atlético Madrid are now desperate for cash, and will surely lower their asking price to raise the chances of a sale, while Lodi has also gained experience of English football at Nottingham Forest.

Of course, he isn’t performing too strongly at the moment, but if the chance of a bargain deal arises, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Newcastle get involved – he may perform better surrounded by better players on Tyneside.

Be sure to keep an eye on Lodi going into 2023, as anything could happen.
