According to The Mirror, Aston Villa want to hand Ezri Konsa a new contract amid interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

It has been reported that Villa have opened talks with Konsa over a new deal in order to fend off interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Tottenham.

The report has claimed that Villa manager Dean Smith wants to keep hold of the 23-year-old, and that the Villans will offer him improved terms to extend his stay.

It has been added that Villa paid Brentford (in the summer of 2019) £12 million to sign Konsa, who was described as “a brilliant defender” by former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports last week.

The Athletic reported only last month that Tottenham and Liverpool are monitoring Konsa.

Good plan from Aston Villa?

Liverpool and Tottenham are massive clubs, but Villa are having a wonderful season and could end up in the Premier League top four.

Given how good Konsa is and his age – he is 23 – it would make sense for Villa to hold onto him instead of cashing in on him now. The Englishman can get even better in the coming years.
