Sheffield United have reluctantly accepted that Rangers and Crystal Palace target John Lundstram is likely to leave Bramall Lane this summer, as reported by the Sheffield Star.
While the Blades are determined to keep hold of their star players this summer – hoping that the likes of Sander Berge, Aaron Ramsdale and John Fleck can help them ‘do a Norwich’ and bounce back at the first time of asking – the Premier League’s bottom club will be powerless to prevent Lundstram’s departure.
The long-serving 27-year-old will be a free agent in July.
And following the agonising departure of Chris Wilder, who brought the midfielder to the Steel City from Oxford in 2017, it seems increasingly likely that Lundstram’s future lies elsewhere.
The Star reports that Sheffield United have all-but accepted defeat in their attempts to tie down the one-time Everton youngster.

In truth, Lundstram’s form in recent months has done little to suggest that he deserves to be playing Premier League or even Champions League football in 2021/22.
But with Crystal Palace, Burnley and newly-crowned Scottish champions Rangers all expressing an interest, the dynamic box-to-box midfielder looks destined to fall upwards following the Blades’ impending relegation (the Express).
Lundstram boasts the energy, versatility and goal-threat required to slot into Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox engine room, although it remains to be seen if he could seriously compete with Glen Kamara and a fully-fit Ryan Jack for a starting place.
