Napoli hope to lay the foundations for talks with potential Arkadiusz Milik buyers in the next few weeks, after nothing came of links to Everton and Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, according to Calciomercato.
Both Everton and Tottenham were credited with an interest in Milik as they sought to add depth to their forward lines.
But even though the Poland international is in the final year of his contract in Naples, his asking price was as high as £23 million at one stage, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, a move failed to materialise, and Milik has continued to be cast aside by his current employers, which should do little to stop his value plummeting.
It is claimed that a meeting in progress between Milik’s agents and Aurelio De Laurentiis, the Napoli president.
The intention is said to be to find ‘a positive solution for all parties’ in January.
And several clubs are ‘willing to return to the office’, according to Calciomercato. There is, however, no mention of either Everton or Tottenham in the latest report.
It remains to be seen what sort of fee the Serie A side would ask for, although AreaNapoli reported earlier this month that Milik could now leave for as little as £6.5m.
Of the two English clubs, Everton looks the most likely destination for Milik, with Tottenham having signed the former Napoli striker Carlos Vinicius on loan.
Everton, meanwhile, failed to add to their options in the 26-year-old’s position, despite their former Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti having sanctioned the loan departures of Moise Kean and Theo Walcott.
