According to The Chronicle, Schalke want to sell Nabil Bentaleb and hope that Newcastle United sign him on a permanent contract.

It has been reported that the German club want to cut costs of their squad this summer and have identified the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder as a player to sell.

Schalke are open to the 25-year-old midfielder extending his loan spell at Newcastle to complete the Premier League season, according to the report.

It has also been claimed that the Bundesliga outfit hope that the Magpies trigger the £8.5 million option in his contract to make the deal permanent.

Stats

Bentaleb joined Newcastle on loan from Schalke in the January transfer window.

According to WhoScored, the Algeria international has played thrice in the Premier League and as many times in the FA Cup for the Magpies.

Permanent contract?

Bentaleb has been hit and miss in his performances for Newcastle so far, and the former Spurs midfielder does need to step up in the final games of the season to make a strong case to stay at St. James’ Park beyond the summer.
