Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a move for Arsenal defender Rob Holding in recent weeks.
The Magpies are reportedly keen to sign the 25-year-old on loan and The Telegraph claimed earlier in September that Holding is a more likely target than Eddie Nketiah, due to Premier League rules that you cannot sign more than one player on loan from the same club.
But there was a bit of a bombshell in midweek when the Arsenal centre-back – who has started both of the Gunners’ games this season – decided that he wanted to fight for his place in North London [The Sun].
However, the print edition of The Sun today [20/09, page 57] has claimed that Newcastle haven’t given up hope of bringing the former Bolton man to the North-East.
The report added that the St James’s Park side even have a house for Holding to move into, such was their prior confidence of getting a deal done.
Should he leave?
In a word, absolutely. Holding should definitely take the chance to join Newcastle.
Not only does Steve Bruce need defenders, evident by their 3-0 drubbing by Brighton at St James’s Park today, but the Englishman doesn’t have much of a role under Mikel Arteta.
Yes, he has started both of their Premier League games, but David Luiz is back in training and William Saliba is primed to come into the senior plan at some stage.
A few weeks from now, Holding might struggle to make Arsenal’s match-day squad, let alone their first XI, and therefore he should definitely ask to leave.
