PSV Eindhoven are expecting to sell top scorer and talisman Donyell Malen this summer with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool big fans of the Netherlands international, as reported by Voetbal International.

Cashing in on your star players is an annual tradition in the Eredivisie. That is just how things work over in Holland; sign young, sell high, make do and mend.

With PSV hoping to raise around £45 million in player sales, Roger Schmidt’s squad could look very different when 2021/22 kicks off.

Rampaging right-back Denzel Dumfries will not be short of admirers while Mo Ihattaren, the talented young play-maker, is also heading for the exit. Ritso Doan, Brumo and Timo Baumgartl – who came close to joining Fulham in 2020 – will be bidding farewell before long too.

But, while PSV’s business model revolves around replacing their key men with players of equal quality and potential, finding a man capable of stepping into Malen’s shoes will not be easy.

VI reports that the free-scoring 23-year-old is expected to depart with Liverpool at the front of the queue.

This comes after Gazzetta dello Sport reported, in March, that the Premier League champions were planning to blow the bank on a £25 million-rated attacker who spent two years at Arsenal before making a name for himself at the Phillips Stadium.

Blessed with searing pace, clinical finishing and the ability to play anywhere across the front line, Malen has scored a career-best 25 goals in all competitions this term.

“If I have to compare him with a player in the Premier League, he seems a bit like Alexis Sanchez,” Malen’s former coach, Brian Tevreden, told FourFourTwo last year.

Fortunately, Malen is in slightly better form than Sanchez right now, even if he did endure a day to forget in Holland’s 4-2 defeat to Turkey last month.
