La Liga outfit Levante branded Leeds United’s £13 million offer for Jose Campana “completely insufficient”, according to SuperDeporte.
With just three days left in the transfer window and a deal for Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance falling apart at the eleventh hour, the Premier League high-flyers turned their attention to a man whose fine form has been rewarded with a first Spain call-up.
El Desmarque reported Leeds put £13 million on the table in the hope it would be enough to make Levante cash in on Campana.
Thanks to SuperDeporte, however, we now know the Castellon club rejected the offer out of hand.
Levante wanted closer to £25 million for a man who has a £50 million release clause in his contract.
Atletico Madrid also failed with a deadline-day approach for a man they felt could replace Arsenal-bound Thomas Partey.
Campana, however, would hardly have been a like-for-like successor for the Gunners’ new Ghanaian powerhouse.

The Seville-born 27-year-old is about as typically Spanish a midfielder as it’s possible to imagine – all shimmies, swivels and inch-perfect passes.
Campana may have flopped under Tony Pulis during an ill-fated spell at Crystal Palace years ago but, after ripping Barcelona to shreds in a famous 3-1 Levante win last November, he is firmly established as one of the most influential ball players in La Liga.
An international debut for Luis Enrique’s La Roja side would be just rewards for a stunning 12 months.
