It has been reported that Greek club AEK value Barkas at £5 million, with Neil Lennon’s Celtic considering signing the 26-year-old goalkeeper.
AEK major backer Dimitris Melissanidis and technical director Ilia Ivic recently held a meeting where they decided that they will sell the Greece international goalkeeper for financial reasons, according to the report.
Need for a goalkeeper
Craig Gordon has already left Celtic this summer after his contract with the Glasgow giants ran out.
The Hoops do need to sign a new goalkeeper, and Barkas is a good player who is still quite young and can only get better.
Scott Bain is still at Celtic and is a very capable goalkeeper, but he needs competition, and Barkas will do more than that.
Fraser Forster spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Celtic, and Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has said that the Englishman does not want to go out on loan, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.
The Scottish Sun has reported that Celtic want to sign Forster, but with a deal looking unlikely, a move for Barkas would not be a bad idea.
