Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could be able to sign Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo, according to a report.

Journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that Arsenal are interested in signing Joao Cancelo from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

The journalist has reported that Arsenal are aware of what it would take for them to be able to convince Premier League champions City to sell the Portugal international star to them.

Jones has said that if Arsenal do pay the transfer fee that City are looking for the 29-year-old, then the Citizens will not block a potential transfer to the Gunners.

Cancelo, described as “unique” by former Citizens star Joleon Lescott, spent the second half of this season on loan at Bayern Munich from City.

Jones said: “Their options for finding a new left-back are pretty limited because there are very few players intelligent and versatile enough to carry out the role so specifically that Arteta is looking for.

“Obviously Cancelo is one of those and there is already understanding at Arsenal of what it would take to sign him from City.

“If Arsenal are willing to pay up then City would not block the move, that’s the current feeling.

“It’s a stance they have held in the past and does not seem to be swayed by the fact Arsenal ran them closest in the title race this season.”

Exciting Joao Cancelo update for Arsenal fans

It seems that if Arsenal are ready to pay what Manchester City want for Joao Cancelo, then the Gunners will be able to sign the full-back.

Now, of course, we have to consider Cancelo’s wish as well.

The player himself will have a big say on where he moves to in the summer transfer window.

We believe that Arsenal will be able to convince Cancelo to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium.

After all, the Gunners are a big club and are a global brand, and they almost won the Premier League title this season.

Cancelo is one of the best full-backs around, and we believe that he would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal.
