Hibernian are confident of tying the coveted Josh Doig down to a new contract despite interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Leeds United, as reported by Edinburgh News.

One of the most exciting young players in Scottish football may have just added a few more pennies to his price tag – not that Hibs plan to sell, of course.

Doig was in supreme form as Jack Ross’s side beat Hamilton Accies 2-0 on Saturday, assisting one and scoring the other – his first senior goal at the age of 18.

It was the sort of performance that explains why Doig has so many admirers south of the border.

Goal reports Premier League trio Leeds, Arsenal and Man City are all keen on the £1 million-rated defender.

Meanwhile, Celtic are embarking on a substantial summer rebuild and would apparently jump at the chance to take Doig from Edinburgh to Glasgow – especially with Diego Laxalt’s long-term future at left-back uncertain.

But, according to reports from the Scottish capital, Doig could be about to commit his future to the Easter Road outfit.

Hibernian are confident of agreeing a new contract, a massive coup for a club sitting third in the Premiership table.

“He’s got a massive future in the game – his pace, physicality, size for his age. He’ll only learn from the games he’s playing,” Hibs defensive partner Paul Scanlon tells Edinburgh Live.

“There are wee tweaks here and there that I’d want him to make to his game but that’s just wee mistakes I made every week as well and he’s got a squad full of boys willing to help him.

“He’s definitely got a big future in the game.”
