Marseille are quoted as saying that after “several discussions in recent days”, Villas-Boas has told them that “he wants to continue working” at the club next season.
ESPN reported earlier this month that Villas-Boas was going to leave Marseille following the departure of Andoni Zubizarreta as the French club’s sporting director.
Foot Mercato recently reported that Newcastle are looking at the former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea boss as a potential managerial candidate.
However, it seems that the Portuguese boss has decided to continue working at Marseille.
Sensible decision?
With Ligue 1 called off early due to the global health crisis, Marseille have ended up second in the table and will play in the Champions League next season.
True, Newcastle are a massive club and are established in the Premier League, but the prospect of leading Marseille in the Champions League next season does sound very appealing indeed.
Villas-Boas was appointed as the Marseille boss in the summer of 2019.
