CalcioMercato claim that Juventus cannot afford to renew the contract of Adrien Rabiot with his current deal expiring at the end of the season and an exit is now likely, with Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United all said to be keen.

Rabiot, 27, was part of the Juventus side that suffered a 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night. Juve have exited the Champions League groups, scraping a place in the Europa League despite only winning three points.

The France international, who is likely to be at the World Cup, has been a rare shining light in a struggling Juve side. The midfielder has been good, scoring four goals in 13 games. But Juve are struggling, sitting in a lowly seventh.

The report claims that Rabiot is earning £117,000 a week at Juventus – but the Old Lady cannot afford to extend his contract. It means he will leave on a free. Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United are all said to be lurking.

Juventus cannot afford Rabiot deal: Newcastle and Chelsea keen

Who needs Rabiot most? The report claims that Rabiot has probably played his last Champions League game for Juventus – despite being Juve’s best midfielder this season. Manchester United have solved their midfield issues.

The signing of Casemiro has improved United, alongside Christian Eriksen. Scott McTominay and Fred are acting as cover. So, he is not needed at Old Trafford. Newcastle and Chelsea however, could do with a midfielder like Rabiot.

Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are out of contract at Chelsea next summer. So, they will need replacing. At Newcastle, Jonjo Shelvey’s absence has been felt. Bruno Guimaraes is better further forward. Rabiot would give him that license.

So, Newcastle and Chelsea are the likeliest options for Rabiot. He will fancy himself as a Champions League player and it may depend on which of the two clubs qualify in the top four. It is an intriguing battle for the top four, this season.
