Bryan Gil has sparkled for Valencia in his first four games since joining the La Liga outfit on loan from Tottenham. Now, Cadena Sar report that talks have begun over extending that loan deal for the 2022-23 campaign.

Gil, 21, joined Tottenham last summer in a deal that saw Tottenham pay Sevilla £21.6million – and Erik Lamela moved in the opposite direction. He clocked up 20 appearances during the first half of the season.

However, the Spain Under-21 star failed to live up to the hype – failing to score a single goal, and only laying on one assist. A resurgent Steven Bergwijn, and the signing of Dejan Kulusevski, saw him leave on loan.

He has already played four times for Valencia since his loan move – with Cadena Sar reporting that he is a “key asset” to Jose Bordalas’ side despite his recent arrival. Gil, then, could remain on loan at Valencia next term.

Valencia eye second Gil loan: Tottenham foolish not to consider

It all depends on what Tottenham do in the summer. Bergwijn could depart with Ajax long-term admirers. While he has shown resurgency, he still remains back-up to the likes of Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min.

There are reports suggesting that Tottenham could strike a pre-contract agreement with Gareth Bale. With Kulusevski likely to be signed permanently, the exit of Bergwijn might not even matter.

Gil is clearly a confidence player and to get the best out of him, both in terms of potential and his overall development, he needs to be playing football. Spurs should really consider a season-loan at Valencia next term.
