According to The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur forward Clinton N’Jie is set to join Marseille on loan having been convinced to make the move.
Spurs moved to snap up N’Jie from Lyon last summer, having impressed with eight goals in 33 appearances for the French side during the 2014/15 season.
Last season was a frustrating one for the Cameroon international though, as he failed to start any Premier League games, played just 185 minutes of league action and missed over five months of the campaign through injury.
A pacey forward who can play out wide or up front, N’Jie looks to have great potential and could be dangerous if given a real first-team opportunity – but now he appears to be heading out of White Hart Lane in the coming days.
The Guardian report that N’Jie has agreed to join Marseille on a season-long loan deal, having initially been reluctant to make the move back to France.
However, with Marseille winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou set to join Spurs for £11m, N’Jie allegedly realised that his chances of playing regularly next season would be limited, and has now decided to join Marseille on an initial season-long loan deal.
The report adds that a permanent clause has been inserted into the deal, which means that Marseille will sign N’Jie permanently for €7m (£5.85m) should he play a certain number of games for the Ligue 1 side next season.
With the permanent clause involved, N’Jie may never end up back at White Hart Lane – and manager Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that he has made the right decision in signing Nkoudou and allowing N’Jie to leave this summer.
