Tottenham can sack Nuno Espirito Santo for free if the Portuguese manager fails to make the top-six after Daniel Levy negotiated a clause into his contract.
According to details published by the Athletic, the Spurs chairman successfully included a clause in Nuno’s contract with the north London club that could save them millions should things go south this season.
As per the report, Tottenham can sack Nuno at the end of this campaign and not owe the coach a single penny should he fail to finish in the Premier League top-six. Spurs ranked seventh last season and currently find themselves eighth in the standings.
The clause puts Levy and Tottenham in a powerful position. The Premier League side have paid out millions over the years to compensate managers who have been sacked from their position with Spurs.
However, this clause means that the north London club are exempt from paying a hefty fee to Nuno should he fail to hit the main objective Levy and Tottenham are expecting from the former Wolves manager.
As reported by the Independent, Spurs had to pay Jose Mourinho a massive £16m severance pay after the club decided to sack the Portuguese coach halfway through his three-year deal with Tottenham.
Contract clause should motivate Nuno to succeed

With Nuno only on a two-year contract, likely, Levy will only need to activate this special clause at the end of this season if Tottenham fails to finish in the Premier League top-six.
This season has already been a mixed bag for Tottenham. Yet for Nuno, this clause will only serve as motivation to push the north London club higher up the table and hopefully to a top-six finish come the end of May.
