According to a report from the Independent, Liverpool are likely to confirm a deal to sign Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri once the World Cup in Russia has finished.

Liverpool are still yet to bring in a replacement for Philippe Coutinho following his exit to Barcelona in January, and after failing to secure a swoop for Lyon ace Nabil Fekir, Shaqiri seems to be a sensible option for the Merseyside outfit.

And the Swiss star could be heading to Anfield sooner rather than later, according to the Independent.

The British broadsheet claims that the 26-year-old’s move from Stoke to Liverpool is a mere formality, and will be completed once the World Cup has finished.

Shaqiri joined the Potters from Inter Milan in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £12 million, and he has gone on to chalk up 15 goals and 15 assists in 92 appearance sin all competitions.

If he does eventually move to Anfield, he could be a great signing for the Reds, and for the reported fee of just £12.5 million, it would have to be considered as a real coup for Klopp’s side.
