Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum wants to stay at the club amid reported interest from Barcelona, according to Sky Sports.

It has been reported that Wijnaldum held talks with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Wednesday, and that they were positive.

The former Newcastle United midfielder wants to stay at the Reds and hopes that a new contract with the Premier League champions can be agreed upon, according to the report.

Klopp is keen for the 29-year-old Netherlands international to stay at Liverpool, with the midfielder out of contract at the club at the end of the 2020-21 season, according to the report.

The Guardian has claimed that new Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman wants to sign the former Feyenoord and PSV star this summer.

Liverpool stay

Described as a player who is “under-estimated” and whose “workrate is immense” by former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson in The Daily Star this month, Wijnaldum is a very important player for Liverpool and was instrumental in their Champions League and Premier League success over the past two seasons.

Wijnaldum reportedly wanting to stay at Liverpool is good news for the Anfield faithful.
