Monaco’s World Cup winning right-back Djibril Sidibe has been offered to West Ham United, but David Moyes’ side will only sign him if they fail to land their other targets, according to the Standard.
The 2017 Ligue 1 champion might have felt that he had done enough to earn a permanent contract at Everton last season.
But, with Sidibe’s finest performances in Everton blue perhaps coming under Marco Silva rather than Carlo Ancelotti, not to mention the return to Jonjoe Kenny, the Merseyside giants opted against triggering the £13 million option-to-buy clause in his contract.
While Sidibe was more solid than spectacular during his time in the north west, the lack of real suitors with just two weeks remaining in the transfer window remains a bit of a surprise; particularly when you consider that there are more than a few clubs looking for a new right-back.
West Ham are just one of those.
Academy starlet Ben Johnson is talented but unproven, while Ryan Fredericks continues to split the Hammers fan base down the middle.
Sidibe, then, would represent a solid and intelligent addition in the eyes of many. But, according to the Standard, West Ham will only consider a deal for the 28-year-old if their other plans don’t work out.
The likes of Gonzalo Montiel, Moussa Wague and Adam Smith have also been linked with the Hammers.
But Vladimir Coufal has signed a new contract at Czech champions Slavia Prague while Matty Cash joined top-flight rivals Aston Villa.
