A report in the Daily Express has claimed that West Bromwich Albion have become the latest Premier League club to register an interest in Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho.

The Baggies have been relatively quiet during this window, bringing just one player to the Hawthorns so far, so it is likely that Tony Pulis is looking to enjoy a very busy week as he tries to get more deals done.

One move that he hopes to pull off is for Carvalho, according to the Express. The Portugal international played an important role in his country’s win at Euro 2016, and has already established himself as a key man for his club.

However, the Midlands outfit face plenty of competition for his signature. The Express reports that Leicester City, Everton and Southampton are all keeping their eye on the 24-year-old, and it seems highly likely that other clubs from around Europe will also be monitoring his situation.

The asking price may also be a stumbling block to their hopes of landing the holding midfielder. The Sun reported in July that Sporting would want £20m for him, but if they sense desperation from clubs during the final week of the window, they may well push the price up further, especially as they will be left with little time to find a replacement.

But if West Brom do manage to pull off a stunning switch, it will undoubtedly be a huge boost to their chances of doing well this season.
