It has been reported that Everton want the Argentina international goalkeeper, but the 33-year-old will join Villa for a transfer fee of €8 million (£7.13 million).
The report has claimed that the former Racing Club and Sampdoria goalkeeper is just one step away from completing his move to Villa.
Good signing for Aston Villa?
With Tom Heaton still recovering from injury and Pep Reina having left Villa after a loan spell, manager Dean Smith needs to bring in a new goalkeeper.
Romero may be the second-choice goalkeeper at United, but there is no doubt that the Argentina international is brilliant between the posts.
The 33-year-old – described by then United manager Louis van Gaal as a “very talented goalkeeper” in The Guardian in July 2015 – has always done well at the Red Devils when he has been called into action, and he has also earned 96 caps for Argentina.
Villa struggled defensively last season, and a goalkeeper of Romero’s quality and experience will make the Villans better and stronger at the back.
