Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund star.
According to a report from Football.London, Tottenham are still monitoring Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Götze, but should they be looking elsewhere?
The 26-year-old German has failed to live up to his undeniable potential over the past few years, and he just doesn’t seem to be the same player he was when he scored the winning goal in the World Cup final four years ago.
Götze left Dortmund for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2013, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £31.5 million, before returning to the Signal Iduna Park in 2016, for £11 million less.

Injuries have undoubtedly hampered the Germany international’s progress, and he chalked up just two goals and seven assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund last season.
He is available for around £18 million this summer, according to Football.London, and whilst that sounds like a potential bargain, bringing him to north London would be a risk that is not worth taking for Spurs.
Mauricio Pochettino likes to implement a high-octane, intense regime at Tottenham, and it is highly unlikely that Götze would fit into that setup, what with his unreliability from a fitness perspective.
It could be argued that the 26-year-old Dortmund man has already peaked, and his diminutive stature might not be best suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.
Whilst £18 million seems like a decent price for Götze, Tottenham would be better off spending their money elsewhere this summer.
