Tottenham Hotspur is not Maurizio Sarri’s first-choice destination, with Calciomercato reporting that the in-demand manager would prefer a return to Serie A with Roma.
While few would argue with Daniel Levy’s decision to put Jose Mourinho out of his misery, the timing of the Portuguese’s departure certainly raised a few eyebrows – and not just because the Carabao Cup final is just days away.
It is becoming clear already, after just 48 hours, that finding a replacement for Mourinho will be easier said than done.
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has already removed his name from the frame while Julian Nagelsmann looks destined for Bayern Munich.
Football Italia reported yesterday that Tottenham held talks with the agent of 62-year-old Sarri, offering the former Chelsea boss a return to the Premier League.
But, according to Calciomercato, 2020 Scudetto winner Sarri would prefer a return to the league where he made his name instead.
Roma, who are about to bid farewell to the under-fire Paulo Fonseca, appear to be his chosen destination.

The report adds that Sarri believes the Roma squad, with its group of talented central midfielders and exciting young talent, is perfect for his brand of domineering, possession-based football.
Fali Ramadani, Sarri’s agent, has apparently given short shrift to approaches from Tottenham and former club Napoli with a move to the capital seemingly the most likely outcome.
