Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Manchester United defender Phil Jones.

Manchester United's Phil Jones

Tottenham Hotspur enquired about Manchester United defender Phil Jones this summer, according to The Daily Mail.

It has been reported that Tottenham were one of four Premier League clubs to have expressed interest in the 24-year-old.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City all were interested in Jones, according to the report.

The Daily Mail has claimed that United have made it clear that the England international is not for sale.

Jones, who can operate as a defender or as a defensive midfielder, has not played since January due to injury.

According to The Daily Mail, United signed the Englishman from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2011 for a transfer fee of £16.5 million.

While Jones is not guaranteed a place in the Red Devils’ starting lineup and is likely to struggle for playing time this season, it does not seem very likely that Tottenham would be able to sign him if they made a late move on transfer deadline day.

The (reported) interest of Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea suggests that Jones is rated highly by clubs in the Premier League.
