Report claims that Leeds and Everton linked player won’t see £14m clause triggered

Rafinha Alcantara is ready to stay at Barcelona and see out the final year of his contract, with Leeds United, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers yet to trigger his £14 million release clause, according to Mundo Deportivo.

While older brother Thiago pulled the strings in sublime style as Bayern Munich sealed the treble last season, putting himself in the sights of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as a result, life isn’t getting any easier for the youngest of the Alcantara siblings.

Barca’s midfield may be a fading shadow of its ‘Xaviesta’ heyday but Rafinha, one of the most technically gifted play-makers on the continent, is still finding it impossible to force his way into the starting XI of the La Liga giants.

The Brazil international has recently returned to the Camp Nou after a loan spell at Celta Vigo. But, if he was hoping for a fresh start under Ronald Koeman a la Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, he will be disappointed.

Rafinha was nowhere to be seen as Barca beat Gimnastic 3-1 in a friendly clash on Saturday.

A Leeds side who have already raided La Liga once for Rodrigo Moreno have been linked with another ambitious transfer coup, via Sport, while Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton were tipped to add Rafinha to a new-look midfield.

Wolves were also rumoured to be interested, according to Sport.

But, with Vitor Ferreira arriving instead to provide the skillful, box-to-box option Nuno was looking for, the trail leading Rafinha to Molineux has grown cold.

Mundo Deportivo believes that the 27-year-old could be about to waste another 12 months on the sidelines at Camp Nou.

With no one willing to trigger the affordable £14 million clause in his contract, Rafinha will instead bide his time and leave on a free in 12 months.
