Yiadom could follow in the footsteps of West Ham United’s Michail Antonio by going from non-league to Premier League.

A report in Thursday’s Sun newspaper (page 64) claims Swansea City are looking to sign Barnsley right-back Andy Yiadom this summer.
Yiadom has excelled for the Tykes since his 2016 move from Barnet, for whom he was playing non-league football as recently as two years ago, after spells at Braintree and Hayes & Yeading.
The 25-year-old’s career path somewhat echoes that of West Ham United winger Michail Antonio, who would have perhaps made his England debut this week but for injury.
And the Hammers could do worse than to consider Yiadom, who made his international bow for Ghana at this year’s African Cup of Nations tournament, in their pursuit of a new right-back.
Also known for his pace, Yiadom is equally competent going forward as he is at the back, creating three goals for Barnsley this season, and is ranked 23rd overall in WhoScored.com‘s statistical run-down of Championship performers.
Swansea have already been rewarded for gambling on one Barnsley player this campaign – with Alfie Mawson filling the boots of Ashley Williams with ease – and West Ham would be wise to take note of their rivals’ interest.

With his contract running out in 2018, Barnsley may have to cash in on Yiadom this summer, and though West Ham target Bacary Sagna would certainly cost less up front, the Frenchman’s expected wage demands, not to mention his age (34), perhaps make Yiadom the better-value signing.
Is Yiadom someone West Ham United should look at this summer?
