Kevin Wimmer has endured a nightmare since leaving Tottenham for Stoke City.

Whilst Tottenham Hotspur secured their spot in next season’s Champions League on Wednesday night, fortunes at Stoke City aren’t quite so rosy.

Paul Lambert’s men suffered relegation to the Championship on Saturday afternoon, losing 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace to end their 10-year stay in the Premier League.

The Potters must now face up to life back in the second tier, and that may result in major departures such as Jack Butland, Joe Allen, Badou Ndiaye and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Whilst those sales would be major blows, Stoke may also look to offload some under-performing players, and The Telegraph report that Kevin Wimmer is primed for the exit.

Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy looks on during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at White Hart Lane on August 29, 2015 in London, England.

Wimmer, 23, was signed from Tottenham Hotspur in an £18million deal last summer, but he has started just 14 Premier League games this season and hasn’t featured at all under Lambert.

With claims that Stoke have put Wimmer on a personal fitness regime and could accept just half of the fee they paid less than a year ago, the Austrian defender’s struggles highlight Tottenham’s sensational business.

Chairman Daniel Levy struck a superb deal to land £18million for Wimmer last summer, as not only was it more than four times what Spurs paid for him in 2015, but his bit-part role under Mauricio Pochettino last season suggested that the fee was great business for Tottenham.

As Wimmer left, Davinson Sanchez arrived in a club-record deal from Ajax, and as Stoke desperately attempt to offload the centre back, Spurs will be delighted with their decision to sell the former Koln man.
