Did prolific Tottenham star Harry Kane sell himself short?

According to The Times, Tottenham Hotspur’s players believe Harry Kane was wrong to accept the wage offer he did last season.

Kane became the club’s highest earner at £100,000 per week plus bonus payments, but as his goalscoring feats ramp up, there is concern he may have sold himself short.

The Times’ report states Tottenham’s players believe this has scuppered their own earning potential.

The report by deputy football correspondent Matt Hughes states: “The view of some of his team-mates is that Kane’s acceptance of a modest contract has suppressed their own wages, as in discussions with Levy their representatives have little argument when he states that Kane deserves to be the highest paid player at the club and is happy with his lot.

“If nothing else asking for a pay-rise would keep his team-mates onside.”

Kane’s contract runs until 2022, meaning Spurs are under no pressure to sell the striker

Unless The England international ‘forces the issue’ and demands a new contract, any Tottenham player who wants to earn above Kane is likely to be rebuffed by chairman Daniel Levy.

Danny Rose voiced his discontent with his potential earning power at the club earlier this year, in a controversial interview with The Sun.

Kyle Walker quit the club to join Manchester City in the summer and is now paid more than Kane.

The Sun reported earlier this month that midfielder Dele Alli is hoping to earn a new deal at the club.
