Sheffield Wednesday talent George Hirst made a hero’s return to the fold this afternoon. The Owls under-23s took on Leeds at Thorp Arch this afternoon and lost the game 3-2.
Hirst has not featured at all for Wednesday this season, after a massive contract dispute with the club saw him cast aside.
But he returned today and looked like he had never been away, scoring once and winning a penalty in the 3-2 defeat.

It will not be a surprise to see him performing so well, as the 19-year-old England youth talent is a potential star in the making. The teenager, son of Sheffield Wednesday legend David Hirst, is out of contract in the summer and his refusal to sign a new deal was behind his absence from the club.
But a report from The Star today suggests some good news on this front. They claim there has been a softening in stance between both parties in regards to Hirst’s future.
Fans at Wednesday will no doubt hope this means there is a chance for him to remain at Hillsborough beyond the summer.

The 19-year-old is a fantastic talent and remaining with Wednesday could be the best thing for him. Given new manager Jos Luhukay has not been afraid to use young talent, it could be Hirst has a future at the club after all – if they can get his expiring contract sorted in the next few months.
