Aston Villa, who have already signed former Chelsea captain John Terry, are said to have wanted three more Blues stars as well as two from Manchester City.

Aston Villa looked at signing five Chelsea and Manchester City players on loan this summer, according to The Birmingham Mail.

Villa were credited with interest in Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, as well as Manchester City pair Joe Hart and Aaron Mooy, earlier in the window.

But it is now claimed that two of Abraham’s Blues teammates, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Izzy Brown, were also considered by Steve Bruce’s side.

All five players have since headed elsewhere, with Abraham, Loftus-Cheek and Brown signing loan deals Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Brighton respectively, while Hart also moved temporarily to West Ham United and Mooy joined Huddersfield Town for £10 million.

Bruce confirmed via The Birmingham Mail on Wednesday: “We’ve missed out on a few.

“The problem is, the big clubs like Chelsea and (Manchester) United want their players to be playing in the Premier League to see how they perform.”

The Aston Villa boss is still said to be on the lookout for part-time recruits, with Liverpool wingers Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo linked in recent weeks.

And it is claimed that another striker could be sourced on loan should Ross McCormack depart Villa Park during the summer window’s the final few weeks.
