According to The Scottish Sun, Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes is now unlikely to make the move to Celtic this summer.
When Celtic ramped up talks with Eddie Howe earlier this month, Hughes looked like being one of the first to join him at Parkhead.
The Scottish Sun reported that Howe wanted Hughes to become Celtic’s new sporting director having held a similar role at Bournemouth.
The Scottish Sun even added that talks with Howe had become complicated over Howe’s demands for Hughes to be on board, as Celtic had other plans.
Manchester City’s Fergal Harkin was a leading contender for the sporting director role, and it’s now suggested that Celtic are considering giving the job to caretaker manager John Kennedy in a shock move.
Hughes is now considered ‘unlikely’ to take the job, but it’s not a deal-breaker for Howe and he will still consider taking the Celtic job.

This has been going on for too long now, and Celtic need to figure out just who they’re appointing this summer, both in terms of a manager and a sporting director.
Hughes was never Celtic’s man – he was a Howe recommendation. If Howe is still willing to join and Celtic can still look at their preferred targets for the job, then maybe it works out best for everybody.
