Rangers continue to be linked with bringing Martin Skrtel to Ibrox.

According to Fotomac in Turkey, Rangers are close to signing Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel after he confirmed his exit.
The 34-year-old has confirmed that he has ‘broken his ties’ with Fenerbahce, rejecting their latest offer to stay with the club after his contract expired.
It’s stated that Skrtel is now ‘close to an agreement’ to join Rangers, where he would be reuniting with his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.
From that perspective, a move would add up, as the pair know each other well. However, this move would make absolutely no sense in pretty much every other way.
Yes, Skrtel would provide Rangers with great experience, He’s been a regular around Europe in his career with Zenit St Petersburg, Liverpool and Fenerbahce, whilst he also has more than 100 caps for Slovakia.
However, Rangers have just splashed the cash on Filip Helander, a Swedish international centre back from Bologna. He’s been brought in as the more experienced defender to help Gerrard’s group of centre backs.

Gerrard has Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and George Edmundson at his disposal alongside Helander, and that appears to be a fine mix of immediate quality and real potential.
Adding a fifth centre back – no doubt on huge wages – would make zero sense for Rangers right now. Had Helander not arrived in a £3million move, Skrtel may have been a prime target – but right now, there’s no need for Gerrard to make such a move.
