Paul Tisdale recently held conversations with Celtic as the former Stevenage boss attempts a return to football.

Celtic have brought back Brendan Rodgers as their new manager and also spoke to Paul Tisdale in recent weeks.

That is according to The Athletic, who note that Tisdale is looking to get back into management.

The Malta-born coach earned a great reputation during 12 years managing Exeter City, winning two promotions.

Tisdale moved on to Milton Keynes Dons after 626 Exeter games and again won promotion but was sacked just a few months later.

The last couple of jobs have been tricky for Tisdale.

19 games at Bristol Rovers and 21 games at Stevenage mustered just eight wins alongside 11 draws and 21 defeats.

Now out of work since March 2022, Tisdale wants to get back into management and allegedly spoke to Celtic.

Surely Paul Tisdale wasn’t in Celtic managerial running

We can only imagine that this was with an eye to joining the Celtic coaching staff rather than becoming their manager.

Celtic made a left-field appointment in 2021 by landing Ange Postecoglou but Tisdale would have been something else.

Whilst once highly rated, the 50-year-old struggled in his last League Two job – hardly preparation for the Celtic job.

The Bhoys have appointed Brendan Rodgers as their new manager, so it’s hard to imagine Tisdale being a competitor with the Northern Irishman.

Rodgers is having to go without Chris Davies this time though as his long-time assistant has decided to join Tottenham Hotspur.

Maybe there is scope for Celtic to add a new face to their coaching staff and Tisdale could be an option.

Tisdale once signed Rodgers’ son Anton for Exeter City.

Rodgers junior told BBC Sport that his father was in contact with Tisdale about the move and their similar outlook on how to play football paved the way for a move.

That was 10 years ago but Rodgers may well still rate Tisdale’s coaching ability; that’s the only explanation we have for these alleged conversations anyway, unless it was purely for advice.
