Newcastle United are reportedly keen on Roma striker Edin Dzeko.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle United are interested in signing Roma striker Edin Dzeko this summer as he prepares to leave the Italian giants.

Dzeko, 33, has been a goal machine for Roma since making a 2015 move to the Italian capital, smashing 85 goals in 170 games; the much-wanted ‘one in two’ record.

The Bosnian is out of contract in 2020 though, and Roma are seemingly ready to cash in this summer whilst they still can, and Premier League clubs are unsurprisingly being linked.

A big, physical striker, Dzeko already has great Premier League experience with Manchester City, winning two titles with the club whilst scoring 72 goals in 189 outings.

Given that he’s a proven goalscorer, Dzeko will be wanted this summer and Tuttomercatoweb report that Newcastle United are now interested in luring him to St James’ Park, with a €10million (£8.5million) offer suggested.

That would be a big-name addition to Rafael Benitez’s side and a major replacement for loanee Salomon Rondon, but the reality is that this deal seems hugely unlikely.

Edin Dzeko celebrates after scoring goal 1-0 during the UEFA Champions League match group G between AS Roma and Viktoria Plzen at the Olympic stadium on october 02, 2018 in Rome, Italy.

As noted by Calciomercato, Dzeko is the highest earner at Roma on £75,000-a-week, and that certainly causes a problem for Newcastle and their alleged pursuit.

If Mike Ashley won’t pay up to get Rondon permanently, then he surely won’t sign an even older striker in Dzeko, so whilst Benitez may well love to have the Bosnian on Tyneside, a deal seems hugely unlikely.
