Reports from France claim Newcastle United have joined the chase for huge 6ft5in defender Christopher Jullien.

Newcastle have joined Burnley, Southampton and Crystal Palace in the race for towering Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien according to a report from Yahoo Sport in France.
The 6ft 5ins centre-back impressed last season as Toulouse secured Ligue 1 survival last season and is valued at around £8 million according to The Sun.
Newcastle have a rich history of recruiting French players and it seems the Magpies may be one of the frontrunners for Jullien’s signature according to Yahoo Sport journalist Manu Lonjon.

Lonjon says Newcastle ‘would be the best at the moment’ after joining the race for the 25-year-old former France Under 20 international by contacting the player’s entourage – as reported by Get Football News France.
“Newcastle has joined the race to recruit Christopher Jullien (TFC) with Southampton,” Lonjob said on Instagram.
“And the Magpies would be the best at the moment!”
Rafa Benitez knows he must recruit well this summer with uncertainty over how much the Spaniard will have to spend under Mike Ashley.

Jullien is under contract with Toulouse until 2021 but at 25 years of age and with the size and stature of Virgil van Dijk he could be a shrewd addition for a relatively low £8-10 million.
The Magpies have had a quiet transfer window so far with only goalkeeper Martin Dubravka signed up permanently after impressing on loan last term.
It is essential Benitez is backed in the transfer market if the club are to secure Premier League survival again and keep the best manager since Bobby Robson happy too.
