As reported by Portuguese outlet Maisfutebol, Chancel Mbemba is currently in Portugal to complete a move to FC Porto.

Apparently the 23-year-old touched down on Monday evening and is set to finalise negotiations, and put pen to paper on a proposed deal until 2022.

Maisfutebol also claim that Mbemba was actually in the city of Porto a couple of weeks ago to take a look at the Drago Stadium, and it was then a four-year deal was first mentioned.

Assuming there are no unforeseen setbacks, the Congo international should be unveiled later this week according to Maisfutebol, which would bring to an end his three-year stint at St. James’ Park.

The defender has made a total of 58 appearances for the club, with only nine coming in the Premier League last season as Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Florian Lejeune featured heavily under boss Rafa Benitez.

Mbemba was used far more in his debut season, at the end of which Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League, but over the past couple of seasons he has failed to gain the trust of the Spaniard and has looked shaky.
