According to The Times, Newcastle United are facing a new problem in their takeover situation.
Karl McCartney, Conservative MP and chairman of the UK Parliamentary Football Club, will call on the UK government today to block the sale of Newcastle to the Saudi Arabia-backed consortium, according to the report.
This report in The Times comes following news in The Chronicle that the takeover was in the final stages of going through owner’s and director’s test.
As reported by The Times, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) will own 80% of Newcastle, Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi will have a 10% share in the club, and the Reuben brothers – Simon and David – will have a 10% stake as well.
Looking forward
It remains to be seen what the political pressure on the proposed Newcastle takeover does, and it is likely that the situation will not be resolved anytime soon.
The St. James’ Park faithful can do nothing much now expect see how it all plays out, and hope that a conclusion is reached one way or the other.
Football in England is suspended at the moment, and it remains to be seen if and when the season gets back underway.
