According to a report from website Ekipa24.sl, Tottenham Hotspur winger Nathan Oduwa initially rejected a move to Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana because of a misunderstanding over how much he would be earning.

The 20-year-old was out of contract in the summer and, despite being highly rated at White Hart Lane, Spurs confirmed earlier today that he has now agreed a deal to make the move after all.

Sky Sports reported back in May 2016 that Oduwa had turned down Tottenham’s offer of a new contract in the hope of impressing at the Olympics and finding a new club in the process.

However, Nigeria did not ultimately select the player for their squad and things had gone downhill from there.

Ekipa24.sl claimed a deal was all but agreed to take Oduwa to Slovenia earlier this month, with Olimpija’s sporting director talking as if the move was certain.

However, there was allegedly a misunderstanding regarding the net and gross wage packet, with Oduwa said to be unhappy at how much he would be taking home after tax.

Coincidentally, not long after the report came out, Tottenham confirmed a deal had now been agreed with Olimpija and one wonders if Oduwa’s reported decision to play hard ball ultimately secured him a better deal.

We will never know, but it seems strange that a deal was allegedly dead in the water earlier this month only for Oduwa to make the switch after all.

He is clearly a talent and if his new club opted to pay him more to get the deal done, they could still be the ones laughing if he ultimately fulfils his potential.
