Everton are reported to have approached the sacked Watford head coach in late 2017.
Sacked Watford head coach Marco Silva discussed with Andre Carrillo the prospect of the winger following him to Everton, according to the Times.
Silva left Watford on Sunday, with the Hornets citing in a club statement an ‘unwarranted approach’ from an unnamed Premier League club – understood to be Everton – as the catalyst for his departure.
The statement continued: “The Board believes [the approach] has seen a significant deterioration in both focus and results to the point where the long-term future of Watford FC has been jeopardised.”
The Times reports that Silva ‘agitated’ to leave Watford and demanded ‘meeting after meeting with the board to state his case’.
That is said to have led to a decline in Silva’s ‘command of the dressing room, as players sensed his ‘lack of commitment’ and, in some instances, sought to follow him to Everton.
It is claimed that Carrillo, who previously played under Silva at Sporting Lisbon, fell into the latter category.
The Peruvian moved to Watford on a season-long loan from Benfica in the summer and has scored or made four goals in 23 appearances so far.
Everton, meanwhile, strengthened their wide options the signing of Theo Walcott from Arsenal last week.
