According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City axed Shola Shoretire at the age of just 10 – and now have to watch as he becomes a key man at Manchester United.

It’s claimed that City found out Shoretire had trained with Barcelona whilst on their books, and decided to release him from their academy as a result.

City did like Shoretire as a prospect at the time, but their concerns took over and Shoretire ended up leaving the City ranks.

United swooped in and signed Shoretire, and he has now signed his first professional deal with the Red Devils as they profit from City’s decision.

Barcelona returned with new interest and Paris Saint-Germain were also keen, but its United who can now look forward to developing Shoretire.

The teenager made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Newcastle United on Sunday, but it came with United rather than City.

City have been left to rue losing Jadon Sancho back in 2017, and they may similarly regret letting Shoretire go, even if he left at a much earlier age.

Seeing him shine elsewhere would have been tough enough, but watching him turn out for their bitter rivals has to be pretty galling for City.
