Liverpool are reportedly hoping to beat Tottenham to the signature of Norwich City winger Jacob Murphy.
According to The Mirror, Liverpool are hoping to beat Tottenham to Jacob Murphy’s signature by offering to loan him back to Norwich City for the rest of the season.
Murphy, 21, has come up through the ranks at Norwich, and having long been touted as a potential star of the future, he’s now become an important first-team player this season.
Jacob Murphy celebrates scoring for Norwich City
The winger has notched 10 goals and four assists in all competitions this season, and with 25 appearances, he’s starting to thrive with regular first-team football.
Unfortunately for Norwich, Murphy’s performances appear to be attracting major interest. With Premier League clubs allegedly keen on snapping him up during the January transfer window.
Now, The Mirror report that Liverpool are hoping to beat Tottenham Hotspur to his signature, and aim to win the race by offering to loan him back to the Canaries for the rest of the season.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Jurgen Klopp has some exciting young players at his disposal already, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ovie Ejaria and Ben Woodburn all coming up through the ranks at Anfield.
The Reds appear keen to add Murphy to that list, with the winger’s pace and trickery no doubt appealing to Klopp, so giving cash plus a loan-back deal to Norwich for the youngster could put them in the lead for Murphy’s signature.
However, it’s added that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has had Murphy watched this season, and they’re another team with a strong group of young English players.
Spurs have shown before that they’re open to buying players and loan them back, as seen with Dele Alli’s move from MK Dons in 2015, but having refused such a deal for Moussa Dembele last year, Liverpool may feel that offering such a deal can help them beat their Premier League rivals to signing Murphy this month.
